Some where along your pregnancy journey you or your spouse had this thought. We are having a baby = we NEED a good camera. There has been an inside joke in the photography community about this mindset. Mainly because each of us started somewhere. And I can guarantee our first picture with our “good” camera wasn’t much different than the last picture we took with our “old” camera. The camera capabilities will be extraordinarily better but unless you have knowledge to go with it…it won’t make any difference.
I recently had a family member several states away that had a baby and I’ve enjoyed watching her love on her little girl. But in the back of my mind I kept thing I just wish she would have taken that picture slightly different. In fact almost in all of her pictures (let’s be honest she probably didn’t actually take them someone with her did) I noticed the same thing.
Since I kept thinking I just need to tell her this one thing that would tremendously make a difference no matter what camera or cell phone camera you are using. I should tell all the other Mamas in my community that might just need one tip. One thing. We can all remember one thing. Every time you pull out a camera device no matter what camera. Just say to yourself. No nostrils. That’s it. No nostrils. Go ahead and say it out loud because you’ll be more likely to remember what you say out loud. “No Nostrils”
Taking a picture of your newborn…angle the camera so that you don’t see nostrils. Taking a picture of your kid…no nostrils. Taking a picture of your “selfie”…no nostrils! Taking a picture of a toddler…good luck! You get what you get 😉
