Milestone is a word that I use frequently in my line of work. But I don’t know that I often use it anywhere else. It’s not a typical part of my vocabulary. But goodness, when I stop to think about it, milestones are a gift. The reminder of an event you survived or accomplished when you didn’t give up!
In the simplest form it is stoping for a moment to mark a special moment in a life. I guess in the past they marked off the literal miles of a journey with stones. We are all on a journey. And if you are reading this you are probably on the journey of motherhood. All the days and years can run together like a blur making any of the details hard to recall.
The first year of motherhood is even worse in my opinion. I remember feeling exhausted and excited. I have 30 minutes of video trying to get my first baby to take a step. My last baby has a 30 sec clip!
The milestones to celebrate with your baby are the first smile (month 1-2), the mastery of tummy time (month 3-4), eating their toes (month 5), sitting independently (month 6-8), and taking those first steps (month 9-15). They are the building blocks of life both to literally get somewhere but also how to try and fail and try again until you succeed! And that is the lesson I need in this new year. I need a community of friends who can clap and be excited for me every time I try again. The trying again is the hard part and everyone needs a “you can do it!” + excited clap! to keep up the motivation.
This year I am offering a Mark the Milestone “Mini” Event once a month. For those that love the connivence of a mini session. They will be for ages 4-8 months capturing (tummy time, eating toes, or sitting independently). They are 20 minute sessions and no outfits are required.
